David J. Spencer

In loving memory of David Spencer, remembered for his contributions to STS Capital Partners, his commitment to excellence, and the positive impact he had on those around him.

David is a renaissance, urban nomad on an amazing life’s journey.

Born in Boston and raised in upstate New York, David has been living and working across Asia for the past 30 years: Japan, Singapore, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. David’s career too has been wide-ranging. He worked to bring 1+ mm phone lines to rural Thailand (Morgan Stanley), helped redevelop the land under the former Berlin Wall (Morgan Stanley), brought toothpaste and potato chips back to Vietnam after the US embargo was lifted (Procter & Gamble), created and built a $7Bn global restructuring business (General Electric), completed one of Japan’s seminal M&A transactions (GE/Mizuho/Heller Financial), and founded one of Asia’s first PE fund-of-funds (Emerald Hill). He continues to seek-out exciting new opportunities and recently served as acting CEO of an Organic Coconut Business in Thailand (Maprao). He is a MD & Senior Advisor for STS in Asia and as well has served on BOD’s in Mongolia (Real Estate), Singapore/Malaysia/Vietnam (Education), Vietnam (Environmental Paper), and Japan (Metaverse). David holds degrees from Cornell (BS), Wharton (MBA), and The University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute (MA).

David was a founding member of the Pan Asia, Yangon, Sea Dragon, Zen Pacific, and ASEAN United YPO Chapters (Young Presidents Organization). He completed the YPO leadership ladder in his home chapter, and as well served as the Regional Chair for YPO in SE Asia and on the Regional Chairs’ Council. He formerly chaired YPO’s Art, Deal, and Financial Service Networks in Asia and currently serves as the Asia Wine Network Chair, and he was inducted into the CEO Organization. David has been active with the Auction Napa Valley, Mother’s Choice, and Room To Read charities, and he serves on the Board of Directors of Pathfinders (protecting Hong Kong’s most vulnerable children). He has been inducted into the Commanderie du Bordeaux and Knights of Alba wine societies, as well he is the founder of Hong Kong Wine Geeks. David is proficient in English, Japanese, and Indonesian, and he speaks a bit of Thai.
